I don't see how national columnists like Pat Forde (who lives in Louisville and knows Charlie Strong) can call the hire failed already. Just because Strong was media unfriendly in Kentucky doesn't mean he won't be in Austin. He certainly won't carry the same PR stroke that Mack Brown did (who does?) but at least let the guy show what he can do and not just on the field before we slam the hire. What, you wanted Jim Mora's son? Give me a break. I doubt after spending all of his adult life in coaching Strong doesn't understand, at least a little, about what he's getting into here. He knows he'll have to do shows on Longhorn Network. He knows he'll have to build relationships with distinguished people with pull inside the castle walls. He knows he'll have to capitulate to a degree. I just hope the Longhorns allow him to be himself or it will fail sooner than they want. He's not Mack and I hope they're all smart enough to realize that he needs space. Give him a chance to do what he does. If I'm writing another blog in 3 years after he's been fired because he wouldn't play The Game in Austin the way they wanted I'm not going to rip him. I'll rip UT football. I'll say at the time, "Did you not know what you were getting? It's not Charlie's fault. It's yours for making a bad hire." That statement though is best reserved for IF it does fail... not now.
