To the surprise of nobody, Sports Illustrated’s current five part series on Oklahoma State is drawing criticism. This will not be the last time that explosive journalism is followed "by skepticism and allegations by offended parties of poor and/or improper reporting." It will also not be the last time that the comments section of an article is filled with conspiracy theories and personal attacks of the author.
But what does Sports Illustrated GAIN by these type of reports? I strongly recommend this great piece by Jim Weber at lostletterman.com. Weber confirms what I said yesterday on the show (in far more detail). SI is going all-in on Oklahoma State because this is one last thing magazine have left to survive: investigative reporting.
