The Texas Rangers made a move today, moving Craig Gentry to the A's in a four player deal (including A's prospect Michael Choice)...
Gentry, 30, is the big name here. He hit .280/.373/.386 with 24 stolen bases last season in 287 plate appearances. He's a career .280/.355/.366 hitter over the course of five seasons and 763 plate appearances. He's stolen 56 bases in 66 tries in his career.
Also of note: Gentry is an outstanding defender with great range. He'll serve as an asset to the A's with his high on-base ability and in terms of covering a lot of ground in the spacious outfield at O.co Coliseum.
Do we really care a lot about this trade? No. But it does allow me to use that picture (above) from Major League. Seriously, how bad did Gentry suck that he was red tagged out of spring training? Their outfield (and I always believed Gentry was an outfielder) included a slugger that couldn't hit breaking balls, a speedster that couldn't hit much at all, and "Tomlinson." (BTW, didn't even have to look that up! FTW!). Was Tomlinson that good defensively? If so, why was he their LF? All we know about his hitting is that "he gave it ride but came up short." And that led "The Duke" into the game. If anything, Tomlinson COST his team! Gentry was worse than that? Yikes.
You suck, Gentry! Ha, ha.
Well, you had to go ahead and score on one of the best plays in college football history, didn't you, Chris Davis?!? All credit due to Davis, BUT we now live in a world where Ohio State is going to play for the National Championship. I hope you're happy, Auburn. The rest of us suffer. The Big 10 gets to play for the BCS? Ugh. Thanks for nothing, Chris Davis.
The only thing that makes me happy is hearing Auburn's radio call of the play. Play by play guy does a good job. But the color analyst freaking out and going 100% homer honk? Magnificent! Listen when Davis hits the Bama 40, "OH MY GOD!"
And the winner for "least important or compelling story for this year's Iron Bowl" goes to...
When quarterback AJ McCarron leads Alabama into Auburn on Saturday with an unbeaten record and a shot at the SEC title on the line, he'll be cheered on by girlfriend Katherine Webb.
All well and good, except that she's an Auburn graduate.
"This is the first actual game, Iron Bowl, that I will be attending," Webb told USA Today Sports. "I don't know what to expect and I'm really nervous."
With so much on the line for top-ranked Alabama (11-0, 7-0 SEC) and No. 4 Auburn (10-1, 6-1), Webb is concerned with how fans will treat her.
WE GET IT! SHE'S HOT!! Enough already. She was his girlfriend last year. He was the Alabama QB last year. This is NOT news because there is nothing new. It's not particularly interesting. This is exactly the type of story that just gets people to roll their eyes and do the "ugh, the media" shrug of the shoulders. What's next? A "Brent Musberger Is Still A Creep For Ogling Her Last Year" stories?
