OKLAHOMA STATE 9-0 – I hate myself for following suit with the rest of the Big 12 media. Yes, I know their defense is suspect (when isn’t it?) and Clint Chelf took forever to break in (provided JW Walsh doesn’t take his gig mid-season) but Mike Gundy is the best HC in the conference (all apologies Mr. Snyder) and their schedule is fortuitous with OU, TCU and Baylor all at home.
TEXAS 6-3 – Mack Brown truly believes he’s back and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Their schedule is cush heading into Oklahoma. Do not make me regret this pick, David Ash.
BAYLOR 6-3 – I really like the swagger that now exudes from Waco and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they won the Big 12. Lache Seastrunk made a mistake going to Oregon (hopefully Phil Knight will stay out of Texas now that he got busted) and he’s ready to roll and Bryce Petty is a fine country boy who’s big and confident.
OKLAHOMA 6-3 – As much as I want to believe SA’s own Trevor Knight is the next star in Norman I can’t help from thinking he got the QB job somewhat by default after Blake Bell got exposed in camp.
(note so far that Texas, Baylor and OU are all picked 6-3 in conference…. It’s really a crap shoot who finishes wear after tie breakers)
KANSAS STATE 5-4 – They’ve got TCU and OU at home and the Bill Snyder magic always finds a way to overachieve. He lost his QB so he tumbles a few pegs down the ladder but not that far.
TCU 5-4 – There’s not a bigger question mark in the league than Casey Pachall. Are we gonna get NFL bound, best QB in Texas not named Manziel or are we gonna get another rise of his demons? I love the Frogs but I need to see it first, Casey.
WEST VIRGINIA – Perhaps the most out of place school in America. The only thing they have in common with us is that Ft. Worth’s own John Denver (he too went to Lee Harvey Oswald HS like me) once sang about this state. I have no idea.
TEXAS TECH – Kliff is good looking.
IOWA STATE – “The only thing we had in common was that she was from Iowa and I had once heard of Iowa.”
