The time to play the Fish was weeks ago. I would have ran him out there for the Ole Miss game, even before David Ash suffered what has turned into the worst concussion in the history of UT football. I remember saying during pre-game that if you were gonna use his redshirt then do it it early in the season. You were coming off a blowout loss to BYU, Manny Diaz had been reassigned and it was clear this was going to be a failed season. Then the streak.
Had Mack Brown not miracled his way to a win in Ames, IA and oversaw the 5 game streak you would have seen Swoopes more so than we have to this point. Mack couldn't go in there and basically tell his team that he was quitting on the season. Starting Swoopes would have sent that message. Perhaps the greater good of the program would be better served but Mack can no longer worry about what's good for UT's future. His own job is in jeopardy and he was going to ride out the streak with Case McCoy. What they can't do now is wait until the Baylor game and run him out there as green as he still is because it could screw his head up if the Longhorns get pulverized and Swoopes struggles.
Mack's options on this matter were:
A) Play Swoopes early in season, get him a bunch of experience and jazz the fan base
B) Do not, under any circumstance waste his red shirt
C) foul the thing up by wasting his red shirt but only sporadically playing him in what's probably your last season as coach anyway
Mack chose C. Quite unfortunate.

While he is certainly not the new face of the Dallas Cowboys.....the look is . And it is carried by not just the owner....most of the fans have the same disgruntled experession . For them it is born out of embarrassment and continued losses from a lackluster team offering fans futile promises of getting better. As for Jerry who knows ? Even when the team is at rock bottom he still passes it off as indication that at some point things will get better, But this latest loss only proves that despite image presented...they remain in ther same hole they dug for themselves several years ago with no sure - fire incentive to climb out.
And for Texas Longhorns...looks like the winning streak is over .

It was suposed to be a big day for the Longhorns and it was quickly turned into a disaster as Oklahoma State made a meal out of the Longhorns while walking away with the winning score of 38-13. Over the next several days talking heads in the College Football arena will break down the whys and why-nots of things that should have happened. And all for a good reason . The Longhorns looked to be back on top, even if it did resemble a wobbly horse learning to run...at least it was running with a few wins under the belt. Now the Longhorns are back on bottom and the question is does the team have the will to try a semi- impressive comeback this season...or do they look ahead to next year, with renewed hope and possibly a new head coach.
